“The course is, I believe, the reason I have continued to remain drug free as it gave me the tools to understand my addiction” Christopher Kelly

What is Addiction?

At Intuitive Recovery we take a very different view of addiction. One which puts the individual back in the drivers seat, able to gain control and responsibility. To this end we make some bold but important statements:

Addiction is a sign of health.

Addiction is the predictable response to using or drinking more than you are happy to and as such it is the sign of a brain reacting normally. It certainly isn't a disease, or for that matter a relapsing condition. Of course people go back using or drinking, but the decision to do so is just that, a decision. To use the language of relapse is to suggest that addiction happens TO YOU, NOT BY YOU.

Addiction is a choice.

Prior to every episode of using or drinking a debate occurs weighing up the pros and cons of using. This is the very essence of choice and Intuitive Recovery works precisely because we focus entirely on this inner debate. Silence IT and planned, permanent abstinence is easy to maintain.

Giving up is easy.

Giving up is easy. Compared to the difficulties of continued use, stopping is a walk in the park. Why do we listen to the voice that says its hard. A life lived in continued addiction is hard.

Planned permanent abstinence is the easiest option.

Permanent abstinence means that You Will Never Use Again. It is a fixed point of reference and should form the basis of your plan moving forward.

You can stop now, and permanently.

The world is full of people who have stopped, and for good. Thats means that YOU can stop, and for good.

Recovery is an event, not a process.

In Intuitive Recovery we believe that recovery is an event - the decision to stop and stay stopped - not an on-going process. What comes after you have stopped is just life, with all its ups and downs. Welcome back to normality, its lovely to be back.
